Advanced Sedation Technology

Monitor

  • Our state-of-the art Mindray Passport monitor is one of the best on the market. It’s unique graphical presentation shows all the vital signs in a concise and understandable manner.

Capnography

  • Capnography technology samples the CO2 exhaled through the nose and displays as a wave form on the monitor screen. This allows for very rapid detection of breathing problems.

Infusion Pump

  • The device continuously infuses sedative medications into the IV line during the sedation session. The effect is the patient remains evenly and comfortably sedated throughout extended procedures. Unlike basic IV sedation techniques that require the dentist to manually inject sedative drugs multiple times during long procedures, the infusion pump produces a more accurate titration. It works by automatically delivering the sedative medications based on the patient’s weight. I am the only dentist in Ventura County doing IV Sedation who uses this technology.

Cardiac Monitoring

  • I use cardiac monitoring during each case. While this level of monitoring is NOT required by Dental Board of California regulations, it provides an additional layer of safety during the sedation. The waveforms are continuously monitored for any aberrations that might give signs of any problems. This is highly advanced monitoring.

Breathing Monitoring

  • I use a device called a “Stemoscope” which uses Bluetooth technology. The “Stemoscope” round pre-tracheal stethoscope is placed on the trachea and the breathing sounds are transmitted to Bluetooth earbuds. This allows me to constantly monitor the patient’s breathing during the sedation. It is another layer of advanced monitoring.

Computerized Charting

  • Gone are the days of recording vital signs and drugs delivered with paper charting! XChart is a hospital-grade anesthesia charting program. A Bluetooth transmitter on the monitor transmits to a Bluetooth enabled laptop. All the vital signs are recorded in real-time. All drugs, oxygen given, infusion rates, and other data are recorded. When the sedation is completed, we email your office a final report. Sedation charting does not get any better than XChart.
